Skill TrainingAs a Union Apprentice you’ll be enrolled in a state-of-the-art program of technical training designed to teach you the superior skills you’ll need in your new career. You will go to work for a Union Contractor and receive a good wage, which will increase as you accomplish you training program. Over time you will become eligible for medical benefits and a pension plan.
Each year throughout your Apprenticeship Training you will receive a minimum of 144 hours of combined classroom and shop instruction. Over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also receive on-the-job training designed to educate you in all the theories and practices of the Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ crafts. Plus, while on the job, you’ll earn a negotiated percentage of the journey workers’ area hourly wage rate, increasing progressively to 100% by graduation.
Training for the FutureAs the OPCMIA prepares for the future, its leadership is squarely focused on increasing membership through organizing plasterers, cement masons and shop hands. Officers, members, and staff of the OPCMIA are upgrading existing training programs and establishing new ones throughout the United States and Canada. The goal is to provide state-of-the-art journey person upgrading and modern Apprenticeship Program. “The OPCMIA is doing everything possible to meet the demands of our membership and our industry as we strive to provide the best trained workers available anywhere”. Remember, if someone tries to tell you that Unions are bad for you- ask yourself, who are they trying to protect?
Benefits of Being a Union ContractorLet this serve as notice that the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association of the United States and Canada wishes to enter into meaningful discussions with you and your company. As employers, you will have the benefit of drawing from the local union labor pool of qualified plasterers and cement masons. Wages will be negotiated to fit the economics of the local area to help insure that you maintain a market share.
